Deadline day drama at Sincil Bank

Transfer deadline day was a busy affair for Imps manager David Holdsworth as he brought in five players to bolster his first team squad.

Peter Bore, Jefferson Louis, Paul Robson, Louis Almond and Nialle Rodney all made the switch to Sincil Bank yesterday.

The only notable departure was that of wantaway Canadian international striker Gavin McCallum who had his contract terminated after refusing to play forLincolnCity.

First Team Manager David Holdsworth said: “I haven’t been able to field two fit strikers in all but one of our fixtures since I took charge and that is frankly ridiculous.

“We saw the impact that Sam Smith made with a partner up top last week atSouthport and in this league having a young lone forward like Smithy makes life very difficult as you can’t really defend from the front.”

These arrivals though are only for the short term says Holdsworth with two on loan and 3 on permanent deals until the end of the season.

This means there are still only six players contracted until the 2013 season.

“The deals we have got are good for the club in the long term. We saw the impact of big players, on big deals with their big egos had on the squad last season.

“We were relegated and while many may blame the ex-gaffer, the players definitely have to shoulder some of the responsibility.

“So with these new arrivals I have brought them in so they want to win a new deal, they have to fight for their place every week. I love that passion and I know I have signed five individuals who will fight for this football club.”

Imps Chairman Bob Dorrian said: “The new players have hardly dented the budget and two are having their wages paid by their parent clubs.

“Gavin McCallum was on £1,300 per week and for a non-league club that is utterly ridiculous so I can say in confidence that these new incomings are not costing us half as much as Gavin did.

“Financially we are still looking at the budget and seeing where we can make cuts, but as far as the playing staff is concerned all is being done to ensure that the manager has a team with sufficient depth to ensure our status in this league.
